LIVE FROM THE HOLLYWOOD PREMIERE

Hat’s off to our friends Steve Longi & David Permut for an exceptional film during a period of films that prove to be much less than that, regardless of the hype.

HSK couldn’t find a bootleg of this film in the downtown alleys for review so we had to go on the inside for this one. Luckily for us the producers for this great little film happen to be regular readers of the site, so they invited us down to the Los Angeles premiere which was at the Chinese theaters last night in Hollywood California.

Jacky is still on vacation so we sent a surrogate to sit in his place and represent the Hollywood Street King. Steve Longi and David Permut are first class guys, they seated us right between funny men John C. Reilly and Garry Shandling.

It’s always a little different when you have knowledge of some of the background on any creative development. The film “Youth in Revolt” is an adaptation of the book written by C.D. Payne and brilliantly adapted to screenplay by newcomer Gustin Nash whose adaptation stood above the tried and true writers also being considered. The film was brilliantly directed by Miguel Arteta who managed to bring out the best of all talent involved!

The back story is one of patience and persistence by almost everyone involved and C.D. Payne is a true HUSTLER.

Know why? Because he wrote this book and shopped it around with nobody taking interest. So he took matters into his own hands and published the book himself mane.  Now it’s on the BIG SCREEN distributed by none other than the Weinstein Company!

What puts this movie over the top for Permut is the casting of Michael Cera in the lead as characters Nick Twisp & Francois Dillinger. I can’t think of another actor that could have played this part any better, delivering laughs with his trademark witty sarcasm through-out the entire film. After the screening the audience as well as HSK were thoroughly pleased with the performance with many comments similar to that of Garry Shandling’s statement to HSK of, “Wow, that was beyond my expectation”

Support real artists and check this film out. The cast is brimming with talent including legends Ray Liotta, Portia Doubleday, Justin Long, Zach Galifianakis (Hangover), Fred Willard, Jean Smart, Steve Buscemi, Jonathan Wright and too many others to list. Too  much of the entertainment these days is devoted to talentless media content that serves no purpose but to exploit the ugliest side of our human nature and offer nothing but train-wreck entertainment pandering to the LOWEST common denominator. Stop giving your money to ingrates like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Tila Tequila and take your girl or kids to see “Youth In Revolt” this weekend.
