Are The Brits Bombing Hollywood’s Acting Scene?

February 14th, 2013

Michael Chiklis Hates Brits

Michael Chiklis Says Yes!

HSK Exclusive - The apparent foreign fashion that’s reported to be taking over Hollywood has led one seasoned out-of-work actor to blast the Brits for taking over the American acting scene. That’s exactly why insiders say Michael Chiklis faked an English accent during auditions for his soon-to-be-released film “Pawn”.

We’re told Chiklis – best known for his role of Jim Powell on ABC’s now cancelled comedy-drama “No Ordinary Family” – recently revealed his outrage over a belief that UK actors – like Daniel Day Lewis and Jude Law – are coming to the US to take the jobs which many American actors are more than competent to fill. According to the actor, it all boils down to that British accent that’s said to remain Hollywood’s a high-demand tongue.

Here’s the drop:

“Michael is telling all of his closet friends that the British actors are taking all the movie roles. A lot of people are riding with Mike, but remain quiet.

Mike is pissed that Daniel Day Lewis got the role of Lincoln.”

Are certain celebs known to have suddenly acquired an English accent overnight? Of course! Just ask Nicki Minaj and Madonna.

LMAOOOO LOL BRITS NEVER COMPLAINED WHEN DON CHEADLE , DENZEL WASHINGTON, FOREST WHITTAKER AND MANY MORE PUT ON TACKY BRITISH ACCENTS AND TOOK ON LEAD ROLLS IN CRAPPY MOVIES FROM THE 80′S RIGHT UP UNTIL THE EARLY 2000′S

AT LEAST THE BRITISH ACTORS ARE MORE CONVINCING WITH AMERICAN ACCENTS.

LET’S FACE IT- IF HOLLYWOOD ACTORS WEREN’T SO HIGH AND LAZY ALL THE TIME- THE BRITS WOULDN’T BE EMPLOYED TO TAKE UP SUCH ROLES.

AS IN ANY COUNTRY- THE INDIGENOUS BECOME TO USE TO LIFE/ COMPLACENT HENCE THE DRAFTING IN OF FORIGN LABOUR.

IN THE CASE OF AMERICAN ACTORS PLAYING BRITISH ROLES- IT WAS DUE TO HOLLYWOOD BANKROLLING THESE MOVIES- AS FAR AS THE BRIT’S TAKING ON AMERICAN ROLES??? WELL ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS BE ON THIS BLOG TO READ ABOUT PEOPLE SUCH AS LYNDSY, CHARLIE SHEEN AND MANY MORE TO SEE WHY IT IS A RISK TO HIRE AN AMERICAN TO PLAY TE LEAD ROLE IN HOLYWOOD

Great reply. I am a Brit – although I insist that there is no such thing as a ‘British’ accent. We either have English/ Welsh/ Scottish or Irish accents.

You can’t be a film star in the U.K., the market is too small. Consequently, if you act and want to eat in the U.K., you have got to be very good. If you look photogenic and can satisfy the sexual proclivities of the director, you can make it in the states, but there comes a point where you need acting talent. Brits are less likely to be troublesome on set, high, drunk, or shacked up with porn stars delaying filming! Also a lot of Black and Asians make it in the U.S. because strangely its easier than in the U.K. The shows over hear are mainly costume dramas, or “we dont have to hire any black people” dramas as i call them.

The Brits can act! They do better American accents than Americans do British ones. I would hire a Brit over an American any day.

Look at the BAFTAs. They were riddled with Americans, and the Brits didn’t complain. Chiklis just can’t get a job. So what? 98% of actors are unemployed.

It’s about time someone is saying something about this. I think it has more to do with the British ‘taking America back” than those people being able to act. They play all of the super heroes, the black roles and more. I am tired of that Idris ELba guy popping up everywhere with his accent that does not math anything. It’s Jewish Holly wood and they can do what they want to, but I guess taking away an American Identity in order to further bring about ‘one world’ (controlled by them of course), is the plan.

    One Word:

    !Homeland! on Showtime

This show had me worked up especially Estes (powerful & fione(fione) dark chocolate self) & Brody(cute ginger), then I found out they were all Brits with exception of Clair Danes(spell check). That’s when I figured that’s why the show is so damn good. There American accents were unbelievable and so was the acting.

We know that the Brits are great actors. I think I read somewhere that the British are easier to work with/most don’t have that diva attitude, British actresses don’t’ get as much plastic surgery as American actresses do, therefore they look more natural when acting. They may even get paid less.

But, to tell you the truth, I was shocked when I found out that many British/foreign actors/actresses have roles in some of my favorite TV shows and movies.

    [Reply]

    Scorpiess Reply:

I heard that they employ British actors because they are cheaper than their American counter parts plus they can act!

Hollywood is hiring foreign actors so they can sell the movie or tv show in foreign markets. It’s not enough that a big budget movie is popular in the states, hollywood wants the overseas money as well.
A blogger mentioned the NBA, why do you think there are so mny foreigners in basketball, because Stern and the owners want the NBA to be global.
Also it’s not just Brits, it’s also Aussies (Hugh Jackman) and South Africans (Arnold Vosloo, Charlize Theron)!

Hollywood is hiring more foreign actors than American actors and more movie productions are filmed outside the US. People do you see what is going on? Do you see what hollywood is trying to do?

    [Reply]

  12. Madraven |

Hollywood is hiring more british actors cause they are better actors/actresses and they vary their roles. Americans get popular and do the same thing over and over again. Julia roberts, jim carrey, jennifer lopez, jason statham etc. ALL make the same movies over and over. Jude law and daniel day lewis make different films each time so you never know what you’re getting. Even johnny depp is getting predictable cause all he takes are bizarro roles like dark shadows and alice in wonderland. Now when he tries to play normal he comes off as unbelieveable like in public enemies. As for mr chiklis dude you have been more lucky than most you’ve been on 2 tv shows that lasted more than 3 seasons each and you’re working now so have a seat and hush.

Touchy subject I see. However from what I’ve seen the Brits are good without the baggage. They hire dialect coaches to help them minimize or cover up those accents and could fool 90% of their television watching audience. Some people can catch them slip every now and then if you really listen. America does have good actors.Unfortunately many won’t have the chance because their waiting tables in Hollywood while some drug addicted FRIEND of the producer gets a role to support his drug habits. Many people in the acting field know that most directors and producers hire the same old same old American actors. Therefore the public gets BORED OUT OF THEIR MIND WITH THE SAME OLD and I DO MEAN OLD ASS ACTORS. People pay for the special effects now. Story telling has taken a backseat so they’ll hire a KARTRASHIAN if they (producers) think it’ll sell tickets.

You know Brits are better actors when a Brit can play our presidents better than Americans. Daniel Day-Lewis is going home with the Oscar for playing Lincoln for pete sakes! Brits are just doing it better.

The British have better training, period. It doesn’t mean we don’t have great American actors, we just have Hollyweird and everyone who can sexually satisfy a producer on the screen rather than real acting. Also, acting is a craft and a profession, not a hype and glam gig.

Harvey Weinstein started this waaay back in the 1990s. We have good schools in the U.S., but if you want to compete as an actor, do at least 2 years in the U.K.

    Hey,

I’m not getting into all the tit for tat….!

I am British, English (actually by birth) all I would like to say is I really rate Mr Chiklis, I regularly watch back episodes of the SHIELD and I think his character in Vegas is top notch.

I have to say, after watching his latest film “PAWN” (actually thought I was downloading something else….! hey hoo) I thought it was a sub plot in his character, in that later on down the line he returns to be yank… and that’s why he was faking the accent, I was wrong he kept it up all the way through.

I would liken his English (London Cockneyish accent) as he obviously spent time watching a lot Jason Stratham films (possibly Turkish in Snatch..?) and probably took the same vocal instructions from Brad Pitt’s tutor (with his Irish accent in both Snatch and The Devils Own.

I would like to recommend those who would like to learn from a great film “BORSTAL” with the young great Ray Winstone.

Not a bad film though (Pawn) held together well by Max Beesly (he is Engish) you can tell that from his demeanor in the film.

Long story short, Mike Chiklis great American actor… hilarious English impersonator… :) ;)
