Do you have any ideal how Howard Rollins died? Some people say aids, some say pneumonia. Did you ever meet him?

I never met Howard E. Rollins, but I’m told the actor used to shoot up cocaine and had a thing for cross-dressing and off camera was a flamboyant homosexual. People I’ve spoken to that knew Rollin’s, say he really liked intravenous drugs.
It’s long been reported that Rollins died of lymphoma, the claim he died from Aids, while possible, has never been conclusively determined and any claim otherwise is just speculation.
On a side note: In my opinion, Howard Rollins was great in the movie “Soldier’s Story”.

met him way back in the day on Monroe Street in Bmore copping drugs. The word in Bmore is that he died from od…much like Carroll O’Connor son did which is why he lasted on Heat of the Night as long as he did. Carroll felt sorry for him. Never heard he had aids. Anyway this was almost 20 yrs ago so…yeah youngbucks wont know this story at all.

Check out a film called Ragtime. Mr. Rollins was nominated for an Oscar, for his role. He was kind of a sad story, and In The Heat Of The Night’s set must have been one wild place to be. I do agree, his work in A Soldier’s Story was masterful.

ME AND MY MOM LOVE THAT MOVIE. MY MOM ALWAYS SAYS THAT BACK THEN (AND EVEN NOW) PEOPLE SAY THEIR LOVED ONES DIED FROM PNEUMONIA OR A FORM OF CANCER TO HIDE THE FACT THAT THEY HAD AIDS. I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH AIDS TEND TO GET PNEUMOCYSTIS THAT CAUSES PNEUMONIA

Why is its than when a well known person dies of aids people cover it up saying they died of drugs or pneumonia. Im not say all but ive noticed a few whose cause of death is blurred as not ot reveal the fact they died of Aids especially the older ;old school’ celebs.

My brother had sarcoidosis before having his lungs transplanted and pnemonia is one of the main complications of having that disease. There is so little known about the origian of this disease. Doctors have said that it usually happens to people who work in mines, who grew up around pine trees, and etc. I just know that my family was blessed by another family who made a decision to donate their love ones organs, so that my brother would have the gift of life. This dreadful disease that plagued my brother from childhood to adulthood.

Soldier’s Story was possibly the 1st movie Denzel acted in. GREAT movie! I always heard he died of AIDS way back then. He and the other character in the movie…the one that committed suicide in jail?

Eevrytime any Black person gets pneumonia….people always say it is AIDS related and that just is not true. You can get pneumonia and have no disease to speak of. We need to STOP thinking that all Black men are undercover homos because it’s just not true. There was a rumor that the brother who played ‘SWEET DADDY’ on Good Times was on the DL and when he died it was said he died from AIDS related pneumonia…..but his wife came out and said that is a out-right lie. We need to be careful how we spread rumors because it hurts the family members of these people who died.

I adored Howard Rollins and had wondered what happened to him.Everything that I have googled says the poor fella passed from AIDS related lymphoma.He was known to dress and act a bit on the flamboyant side off the set.Also he was never married and had no children.Could have been gay,so what.He was a wonderful actor as far as I am concerned.

AIDS breaks down the immune system making you suscetible (?) To otner illness like a common cold or flu virus.
Even homosexuals who are AIDS infected tend to be coy about the actual cause so the parlay in to a secondary illness.
