Ask Jacky… Why Are Blacks Folks Criticizing Gabby Douglas’ Hair?by Jacky Jasper
Can you please tell me what is up with all these black folks giving little gabby douglas hell over her hair? what are they thinking? should we not be celebrating this child’s achievements, and not bemoaning the fact that her hair doesn’t look like beyonce’s?
Should we not be celebrating the fact that she is more concerned with her insides and perfecting her craft, than looking like a supermodel? What does it say about the lives of her critics, that they would put a child on blast for having”ugly” hair? this is just so sad and disappointing. i am cheering for her, and the fact that her mom has instilled in her what is truly important. hope that all the haters see the light for themselves, very soon! and p.s., how great is it that her mom, who raised gabby and her sibs with little support from their dad, and ended up in bankruptcy while trying to support their dreams, now gets to bask in the glory of her olympian daughter`! a real cinderella story!
Here’s what an Afro American critic had to say:
“I love Gabby Douglas, but I’m mad at whoever keeps letting her wear that half wig and that silky ponytail on the back of some nappy hair. She doesn’t belong on camera.”
Here what Al Roker recently tweeted:
“Anybody who has a problem w/Gabby Douglas’ hair needs to sit down and be quiet. Enjoy and focus on the accomplishments.”
These Afro American people who are speaking out against Gabby Douglas’s hair do not speak for the majority of us. Know why? Because all Gabby Douglas’s hair critics are a bunch of Uncle Tom’s!
This teen girl is a beautiful kid who came from the bottom and made it to the top – that’s the American Dream. Let’s applaud Gabby and her mother Natalie Hawkins for raising a beautiful daughter.
What did the critics want Gabby Douglas to do, perm her hair with a Dark ‘N Lovely kit? Gabby Douglas is a young teen and she needs to keep focusing on her talent and her education and ignore the self hating Uncle Tom Negro. Don’t you agree?
