BET Television Scandal Exposed?

Have you ever watched Harlem Heights or Baldwin Hills on BET? You might think the two shows do OK but the truth is a far far different story.

You’ve seen Harlem Heights right?. Guess what? Johnson & Johnson sponsors it. According to the show’s Executive Producer Michael McNamara, they (J&J) front the production cost and are the core financial backing to the show – far beyond the role of a traditional commercial advertiser. ”BET doesn’t care if anyone even watches the show because the production cost is fully sponsored before it even films”, said McNamara.

BET thus airs the show with no dip into BET’s own pockets! Great right? WRONG!

How “Black” is BET I must ask? If they’re owned by Viacom and only getting a check while letting a big over-sized white corporation like J&J fund the programming and a little bullshit production company film it where’s our piece? Are we supposed to watch this shitty television? Is that where “we” come in?

While Debra Lee sits at her desk at the BET office with the other dinosaurs and counts what little money they have left, YOU the viewer are getting screwed. YOU the viewers are watching mediocre bullshit that doesn’t progress our culture – both as Americans and Blacks. Not only that but cNamara and his crew constantly reference how much they would “rather work for any other network than BET”.

Wasn’t it bad enough that The Hills already demented the minds of America? Did we really need the “Black Version”? I believe in equality but I think this may be one area where we could have let the white chicks have all the shine….and be pretty happy about it!

So what can be worse than a pre-paid television show that is upheld against virtually NO standard? Well, for starters the production company responsible for these shows is a white production company that exploits our culture purely for profit and if I may be so bold – makes really really really shitty television shows with no artistic value. MC Filmworks/ BeachStreet Ent doesn’t care though, know why? They’re not trying to produce Scorsese-worthy content! They’re hustlers that “eat from the top”. They are a company who’s resume consists mostly of one “one-off” after another. They’re only in this business for the budget mane….

That kind of philosophy, that very manipulative, strategic, and intended exploitation of “real art” won’t last forever. At the end of the day its all about entertaining you guys – that’s why we’re all here…..isn’t it? That’s why Jacky is here!

I expect BET to act like an out-of-touch corporation because – THEY ARE ONE mane! MC Filmworks/Beach Street ENT is not a huge corporation – they are a fucking 1-off production company that gets all their ideas and talent from the hard work of their very own house nigga Michael “Murithi” Marangu. In other words Michael Marangu finds MCM Filmworks “talent” and “IDEAS” that Michael McNamera can minipulate…ask Steve Flanagan? Wait……yeah that’s right – the story gets deeper! Guess who the production was for “Paint Misbehavin’”? MC FILMWORKS!

I will give Michael McNamera credit for one thing, at least he exploits people from both the ghetto and the trailerpark!

MC Filmworks’ style of business is kind of like the guy that asks to borrow your Rolex to impress a date and sells it to a pawn shop in Simi Valley after the dinner. They’re both crooks right?

Most of McNamara’s family got jobs on that show – his “wife” Sherri was the Executive Producer and one of his baby’s mommas was the makeup artist (though perhaps the nicest person on the set we might add….).

Hey Sherri: I hope you used your cut of the production money wisely, know why? ‘Cuz your mustache was beggin’ me for a razor when I met you that day. Do everyone a favor and go see my man Dr. Chong – he does great laser cosmetics!

I don’t know what film school Michael McNamara went to, but I’d like to find out – I’d like to offer them a free ad campaign on HSK.

What?!

Everyone on the street should learn how to get paid, right?
