
Now that we know Orlando Magic Center Dwight Howard is having back surgery for a herniated disk and has not quit on his team, I wonder if reporters like ESPN’s Jemele Hill are going to apologize for adding fuel to an already out of control fire of rumors and innuendo’s in regards to the Dwight Howard/Stan Van Gundy/Orlando Magic situation. I highly doubt it.
Dan Fegan, Howard’s agent, said he hopes this development debunks any thoughts that Howard’s back problem was not serious and that he was utilizing it as an excuse not to play, a sentiment expressed by a few sports reporters, including the aforementioned Jemele Hill of ESPN. It appears he will not only miss the rest of the NBA regular season, he will miss the playoffs and the 2012 Summer Olympic Games too. According to his doctors, D.Howard can resume training within 4 months.
According to AP reports, D.Howard has stated before that a major reason he opted into the final year of his contract is because the Magic said they’d trade him if he didn’t, and he wasn’t prepared to give up on winning a title with the Magic this year. Even now it is said that he still believes the Magic are capable of a title run without him. Not that I am being a defeatist but I highly doubt the Magic can win anything without D.Howard in the lineup. Hell, as a SIXERS fan, I doubt if they can win the NBA title WITH D.Howard.
