In case you missed it…

My friend in San Fran, Dee Dee Russell is as devoted to her art as anyone whom I’ve ever come across in Hollywood, and guess what? Dee Dee is a strong Black woman defying the odds against acheiving her dream.

This is a career filmmaker’s pledge drive with 69 videos to crowdfund 6 documentary films, starting with the elder abuse/death of her very own mother.

You can DONATE HERE

Did you know that only 5% of directors are female? Can you imagine what that % is for Black female directors?

Aren’t you tired of hearing people complain about Tyler Perry and Spike Lee? Yes, the filmmaking climate is challenging. It takes a hybrid of talent, charm, determination, experience, boundless energy and optimism to win.

Who better to meet that challenge than she who holds Black families and Black communities together, she who by the power of her will raises our next generations – so often alone and in the face of every kind of adversity? And she who is the true bridge between our challenged communities and the greater world: the powerful Black American Woman. Continue Reading…

How I Turned Tragedy into Triumph…

Forcible Rape

I share this story not out of sorrow, but hope.

On Oct. 23, 1998, I was raped. It happened during my sophomore year of high school. I was attacked while in class, and yes there was a witness. My gym teacher, Mr. Toft witnessed the entire attack, and did nothing to help me.

The person who sexually assaulted me was arrested, but ultimately for his crime against me was only given probation. I was not his first victim. The previous year he dragged a girl out of a house party by her hair and raped her. She never reported it, and soon after dropped out of school.

Now, you may wonder why he got off so light? Why did his victims receive no justice? Well, because his parents were wealthy. In fact, his parents were on the city council for the town in which this tragedy happened. I went to highschool in a town that had one stoplight. My mother was in the military, and this is was the only high school in a 20 mile radius. Frankly speaking, the only reason why the case even saw the light of day was because my mother was in the military. Continue Reading…

Kardashian Human Rights Violations
Don’t think for a minute that the ill gotten gains earned by the Kardashian Klan is put back into the US economy.

Li Qiang, the executive director of China Labor Watch, says that the reality stars are turning a blind eye to human rights abuses, for the sake of their bottom line. “People like the Kardashians are producing their products in China because they will get more profit, since the labor cost is so low compared to the United States and other countries,” he tells Star exclusively.

The sweatshop workers live in squalid factory-run dormitories filled with the stench of sewage while toiling up to 84 hours during seven-day work weeks to produce some of the goods that helped Kourtney, 32, Kim, 31, Khloé, 27, mom Kris, 56, and the rest of their family earn $65 million last year. Occupy the Dream 2012

Dr. Benjamin Chavis Muhammad is about to make an important announcement today and guess what– HSK has the drop first.

Here’s an email sent to me from Dr. Benjamin Chavis Muhammad:

Dear Jacky,

Thank you. We will have a press conference tomorrow morning at 10am, National Press Club, Washington, DC to formally announce the launch of Occupy the Dream into the Occupy Wall Street movement to challenge income inequality in America. We have assembled some of the key clergy from about 30 cities across the US who will be at the press conference to stand shoulder to shoulder in unity with OWS.

We will have national days of action via Occupy the Dream beginning at Federal Reserve Banks on January 16, 2012 in many different cities through April 7, 2012 with large mass gathering in DC.

During my teenage years, I worked with SCLC and Dr. King as a youth organizer for Dr King in my home state of NC in the 1960s.

Now, today, OWS is fulfilling Dr. Kings dream for economic justice for all. I have known serious movement to transform America and to help all people empower themselves. We all should strive to “occupy” a universal consciousness for the equality of all people.

Jacky, I hope this brief summary helps to explain some of what we are planning and why.

God bless,
Ben

Wait there’s more!!!

Ja Rule wrote an open letter from prison and when I read it I understood where Ja was coming from — and guess what? it’s sad, but very true.  Sometimes it takes being incarcerated for some of us to understand the meaning of life.

Here’s Ja Rule’s open letter from prison:

My first night here was crazy inmates screaming, banging, and kicking the doors calling the male CO’s bitch ass niggas & faggots telling the female CO’s how they gonna fuck em, throwing plates of food out their cells onto the floor LOL. WELCOME TO THE GREEN MONSTER! Continue Reading…
