Tyler Perry fans are calling the film maker a sell-out after the Madea-maker cast Kim Kardashian as a leading lady in his latest movie “The Marriage Counselor.” Now, many former devoted Perry followers are threatening to boycott the film.

Jacky Gives “Monkey Gang” Movie 2 Thumbs Up!

On Saturday, I rolled out to the Laemmle Sunset 5 theater for the premiere of “Monkey Gang” – a movie that’s part of the 2011 Hollywood Black Film Festival.

Monkey Gang is a mock documentary covering today’s hip hop culture, and guess what? It was pure comedy!

When the screening came to an end, the audience applauded as the film’s director Mr. M and writer Casey Gane-McCalla took to the stage for a session of Q&A with the audience. Know why? Because Mr. M and Casey wanted to hear what the critics had to say mane.

Mr, M and Casey McCalla both formerly taught Hip Hop in the Bronx, New York. They’re street dudes who completed a project about their urban environment, and I appreciated it – but the critics (who reminded me of uppity blacks from the Bladwin Hills area) had a lot of negative commentary.

Queen Latifah & Cam’ronTo Start New Film Company

According to various reports, rapper Cam’ron has formed a new joint venture with Queen Latifah and business partner Shakim Compere.

The company named KFU Productions pulls together Jacob York’s Killa Films and Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Films, both of which are teaming up to produce the movie “Percentages” starring Cam’ron.
