Urban Guru Jacky Says….

We’ve witnessed artists like Tupac crossover from the underground rap scene into the commercialized pop era.

Now rap is a far cry from what it once was. Back in the 80′s, it was about real dudes like Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim , KRS1, NWA, Public Enemy and EPMD…that’s when real street cats repped rap music. Back then, even the concert promoters were real drug dealers. Don’t believe me? Ask Kool Keith.

Then came the 90′s, and with that decade came Snoop Dogg, Biggie, TuPac and other cool rappers who were cool, and guess what? The rap game crossed over. No Longer Urban! By then, strippers wanted rappers for their boyfriends. But, the game was real. Know why? Because even back then strippers were real, and would pull licks for their nicca’s… It was all about street life/thug life, yet we were still loving groups like Tribe Call Quest, Pharcyde and De la Soul.

After the deaths of TuPac and Biggie Smalls, cats like Nas, and Jay Z then ruled the game, but it was still cool, because we had Master P and the Rapalot label…who gave us real BLACK nicca’s like Scarface… and how can I forget E40 and Too Short. Plus, Cash Money was born and gave us the rappers Juvenile and B.G., and Dr Dre signed Eminem.

The IRS Hates Nigga’s…Don’t Believe Me? Ask Young Buck!

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

In Urban News -Young Buck’s home in Nashville Tennessee has been raided by several federal armed agents. Know why? Because Young Buck owes $300,000 in unpaid taxes.

It happened earlier this week when IRS showed up during the early morning hours at the rapper’s home, seizing all of the platinum artist’s belongings, including recording equipment, jewelry, furniture, platinum wall plaques, and even his son’s PlayStation.

Here’s what Young Buck, whose real name is Darnell Brown, had to say: Continue Reading…

ALL ABOARD!!!! Dr. Dre Joins Gets On the Justin Bieber Express?

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Word on the rumor mill has revealed Dr Dre to now be recording with (of all people) Justin Bieber. This new news may force some of you to ask WTF?!?!?!?! But this is not shocking news to me. Know why? Because I believe dude does anything Jimmy Ivoine says.

Dre has gone from recording songs like “Nigga’s For Life”, to helping to create pop records for Eminem. I can’t blame Dre…it’s all about the money, but to team up with today’s’ teen idol Justin Bieber is completely ridiculous! I guess Tupac was right all along, calling these dudes sell out house nigga’s.

Don’t you agree?

Die Antwoord Makes Eminem Seem Like a Trust Fund Kid

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Led by the controversial white trash hip-hop trio Die Antwoord, a slew of South African acts aim for a mainstream, international audience.

Consisting of tall, hulking rapper Ninja, tiny, mulleted blond vocalist Yo-Landi Vi$$er, and nondescript, portly DJ Hi-Tek, Die Antwoord (Afrikaans for “the answer”) have stirred up controversy in South Africa thanks to their white-trash, roughneck image. They call their music “zef ninja rap rave”—“zef” being an Afrikaans term akin to “redneck,” and while “ninja” refers to both martial arts and the leader’s handle, it’s worth remembering that in hip-hop slang it’s often a less racially charged substitute for another N-word. With his gold teeth, bared upper half full of ink (on his neck, “Pretty Wise”; on his left pec, a fist gripping a dagger), and a scary-intense gaze, Ninja clearly models himself on American rappers like 2Pac and Eminem. A promotional clip from December features an interview with the trio in front of their modest Cape Town homes, talking about their humble beginnings and present-day in classic keepin’-it-real terms. Jay Z Does Dance Music While 50 Cent Ditches It

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Jay Z is reported to be back in the lab with Producers Timberland and Swizz Beats, working on an “up tempo” album. Now to me, “up tempo” music is dance music.

This new trend of dance in the rap game is nothing new. Just last year, while 50 Cent was touring Europe, the G-Unit rapper recorded his dance album “Black Magic”. Is Jay Z biting Fiddy? I don’t know, nor do I care…but some of you do. So here’s the scoop…

50 Cent told Rolling Stone Brazil: “I’ve written an album that’s called Black Magic, but I am not sure it will be my next album. Since I’ve made it back to America after recording it in the U.K. and different territories since I was on the road, I started writing different material that don’t (sic) quite fit that concept.” Continue Reading…
