Jacky Gives “Monkey Gang” Movie 2 Thumbs Up!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

On Saturday, I rolled out to the Laemmle Sunset 5 theater for the premiere of “Monkey Gang” – a movie that’s part of the 2011 Hollywood Black Film Festival.

Monkey Gang is a mock documentary covering today’s hip hop culture, and guess what? It was pure comedy!

When the screening came to an end, the audience applauded as the film’s director Mr. M and writer Casey Gane-McCalla took to the stage for a session of Q&A with the audience. Know why? Because Mr. M and Casey wanted to hear what the critics had to say mane.

Mr, M and Casey McCalla both formerly taught Hip Hop in the Bronx, New York. They’re street dudes who completed a project about their urban environment, and I appreciated it – but the critics (who reminded me of uppity blacks from the Bladwin Hills area) had a lot of negative commentary.

Here’s what one critic had to say: Continue Reading…

The History Of West Coast Hip Hop In Pictures

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Your help can make this possible!

Michael Miller was the right man at the right time, when the west coast hip hop movement was exploding. Besides shooting all the major players in the game he also kicked it with the artists and became a part of the culture. Shooting important figures like Cypress Hill, NWA, Tupac, Ice Cube, Snoop, House Of Pain, etc, etc His photo’s are an amazing archive of a magical time in music and his crazy but true stories about the shoots are mind blowing!

These photo’s will debut in major galleries across Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. Take advantage of this great opportunity to own one of these limited editions.

Support the project here on Kickstarter.

Whats Really Happened to Hip Hop!

Hip Hop you don’t stop. What a great form of music. I no longer have the same love for Hip Hop as its made a drastic change for the worse.

Remember when rappers didn’t like each other? When it was competitive. It was like the NBA or a Boxing Match there was rivalry.

It was so exciting and the people loved it most rappers built their career on dismantling the opposition. Here’s a few battles you might remember.

  • Jay Z getting at Mob Deep you guys loved it and I notice you guys didn’t call Jay Z a hater you congratulated him on it.
  • Jay attacked Nas you guys didn’t call him a hater once again you loved it and Nas answered back with Ether and you all enjoyed it. Then 50 cent attacked Ja Rule. I remember people laughing their asses off. You didn’t call 50 a hater you agreed with 50 didn’t you? Continue Reading…

Ask Jacky…Is Flo-Rida Popular In America?

Flo Rida Australia

Jacky what’s good?

It’s Tckz here again… your Australian connect :)

Saw your article on Flo Rida pulling out of his Australian apperance… wack… I mean he is wack, not wack him pulling out.

While on the subject. Flo was also meant to perform as a part of what is billed here as “Live At Your Local“. Which is essentially an artist playing in “pubs” which might have a capacity of say 500 people max, the venues are small and hella dodgy, and are in suburbia. Like 40 kilometers from a capital city. Feel me ?

Heres a link to the Live At Your Local website, and as you can see. It is mainly a tour of various washed up acts, and quite a few hip hop artists:

liveatyourlocal.com.au

The only ones I will not front on is Naughty By Nature… dudes are still ill and deserve respect… but even Vanilla Ice is touring on it! haha

Peace Jacky, keep doing your thing…

Chocolate City Is Pissed @ Young Jezzy

Jeezy DC No Show

This past Friday the rapper Young Jezzy had a concert at the Love night club in Washington DC and guess what? Jezzy didn’t show up.

Here’s what a reliable source had to say:

“Young Jezzy was a no show at Love night club, students, dope boys, and the hottest in the ent. Biz paid $150.00 to see him. Jezzy refused to honor a contract that was signed and made with his prior management. Jezzy was in DC but his ass was back on a plane by 10pm. Super promoter Wayne Johnson tried to make peace with the crowd before things got out of control. Continue Reading…
