The man who recruited rapper 50 Cent for Violator Management in 2003 holds a strong opinion on what it takes to reign in the world of blogging.

In this exclusive interview with Dave Lighty, both Jacky Jasper and the OdLight Entertainment CEO agree that many bloggers do nothing more than just copy and paste. In addition to the differences between blog sites, Lighty also explains the contrast between working at Jive Records and Def Jam Records, and gives us an inside stance on artists like LL Cool J, T.I., T-Pain and Chris Brown.

During this very candid conversation, Jacky Jasper also inquires into the rumor of LA Reid to be replaced by Dave’s brother, Chris Lighty.

Nas Def Jam Letter

“In a nut shell he has an album titled ‘Lost Tapes 2′ that his fans have been dying to have since his first one came out in 2005. They seem to not understand the cultural impact the first one had. The album is done and now they are saying he can put it out but it won’t count on his deal and they won’t pay for it but still want all the benefits of a new nas album.”

———————————————————————–

From: Nas
To: LA Reid, Steve Bartels, Steve Gawley, Michael Seltzer, Joseph Borrino, Chris Hicks
Subject: PUT MY SHIT OUT!

Peace to all,

With all do respect to you all, Nas is NOBODY’s slave. This is not the 1800′s, respect me and I will respect you.

I won’t even tap dance around in an email, I will get right into it. People connect to the Artist @ the end of the day, they don’t connect with the executives. Honestly, nobody even cares what label puts out a great record, they care about who recorded it. Yet time and time again its the executives who always stand in the way of a creative artist’s dream and aspirations. You don’t help draw the truth from my deepest and most inner soul, you don’t even do a great job @ selling it. The #1 problem with DEF JAM is pretty simple and obvious, the executives think they are the stars. You aren’t…. not even close. As a matter of fact, you wish you were, but it didn’t work out so you took a desk job. To the consumer, I COME FIRST. Stop trying to deprive them! I have a fan base that dies for my music and a RAP label that doesn’t understand RAP. Pretty fucked up situation Continue Reading…

Tommy Mottola Set To Snitch

Monday, October 4th, 2010
Send this Story to a Friend

Tommy Mottola is ready to tell all about how he jumped from being a mediocre singer from the Bronx named T.D. Valentine, to becoming the head of Sony Records.

Mottola has signed a book deal to write “The Last Starmaker”, set for release in 2012. In the book you’ll reportedly read how Tommy discovered Shakira, Beyonce and ex-wife Mariah Carey. Mottola will also allegedly tell you how Walter Yetnikoff brought him to CBS Records only to turn on Tommy, forcing the music mogul to lose his job.

This soon-to-be released read comes just a few years after the book which attacked Tommy Mottola’s character, “Howling at the Moon.” You may remember back in 2004 Yetnikoff put out the memoir. Now, it looks like Tommy is planning his payback. So, expect to read all about Mottola’s narcissistic point of view and his take on his marriage with Mariah Carey. And I’m told in the soon-to-be released book, Tommy will tell us all to kiss his ass, and give us the goods on Jennifer Lopez’s and Marc Anthony’s first meeting. Continue Reading…

L.A. REID TO BE REMOVED FROM UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP

jacky-jasper-gossip

UPDATE: HSK told you back in November about LA Reid being ousted from Def Jam….Well that day has finally come. Now who are you calling a Gossip Columnist? (via TheYBF.com)

—————————————————–

HSK has received a handful of comments from people claiming hollywoodstreetking.com is a gossip site, but guess what? They are so fucking wrong.

I do not base HSK posts on gossip, they are based on facts, and information as we know it. It’s a fact that Interscope Records is reported to be solely releasing singles, in the coming future — Ask Jimmy Iovine.  I’m also told that Def Jam Records will no longer be a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, because it will folded under the umbrella of Universal Music Group. Plus, it’s reported that L.A. Reid is set to be removed from Universal Music Group — Ask Chris Lighty. Continue Reading…

Bob Marley Blackballed By Record Execs!

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
Send this Story to a Friend

Black Urban Guru Jacky

Family members of the late Bob Marley have lost their fight for the rights to the King of Reggae’s most famous songs.

The man who signed Bob Marley to Island Records, Chris Blackwell, is the bastard to blame for presenting a fucked-up contract to the legendary artist. Know why? Because Universal Music Group hasn’t compensated the Marley family royalties linked to the Reggae King’s recordings. Universal Music Group has now been declared the rightful owner of the copyrights to five of Bob Marley’s albums, recorded between 1973 and 1977.

Once again, these record company nerds have cheated an artist out of his rightful money. Now, it’s astonishing to me that countless house niggers still can’t wait to sign a record deal with the thieves at Universal Records. Here’s to my fellow musicians — Record companies will not respect you unless you fight for your rights (which includes fighting for the rights of artists who came before you). Now, it’s up to us to stand up for our rights, and tell the chairman of Universal Music Group, Doug Morris, to FUCK OFF and give back the rights of Bob’s music to his family.

Don’t you agree?

Does Willow Smith Sound Better Than Rihanna?

Thursday, September 9th, 2010
Send this Story to a Friend

Just yesterday, I took a listen to Willow Smith debut song “Whip My Hair”. For those of you who may not know, Willow is Jada and Will Smith’s nine-year-old old daughter. The track was filled with countless studio effects, which makes Willow sound much older than she is (thanks auto-tune).

Now, I just got news that Jay Z (who’s a good friend to of Jada and Will) signed Willow to his Roc Nation Label. Jay is also reportedly looking to sign Young Jezzy to Roc Nation as well, but I must admit I think Willow sounds better that a lot of singers who are competing in today’s computerized market. Now, I’m wondering if Willow sounds better than Rihanna…
