Rakim is said to be known as one of the greatest rappers of all time. Who’s to blame for such a heavy statement? You are, or at least those of you who support such self-proclaimed idols. Because of that, you’ve all let it all go straight to dudes head. Know why? Because Rakim refers to himself as GOD! WTF???
Here’s a dude who’s from a much earlier era than Jay Z, yet ‘Hova’ is doing laps and laps around Rakim, when he should have been holding down the “King of New York” title.
Eric B discovered Rakim back in the day, moving the (then unknown rapper) from Long Island, New York to ‘The Big Apple.’. It’s Eric B’s golden touch that transformed Rakim into the superstar we all know today. As a result, Rakim whose real name is William Griffin, was born a star. Both his style and image were sparked from the visionary mind of his partner, Eric B. So…for those of you who have any inclination that Rakim did it all by himself, YOU ARE ALL DEAD WRONG!!!
Most black kids who love the art of hip/hop look up to Rakim. I’m sorry to say, those kids are being totally misguided. Know why? Because the Rakim they idolize so much truly has a deep dark side…which I’m about to reveal to you. Read on…
The group ‘Eric B and Rakim’ severed their ties, in the early 90’s. I don’t know exactly why, but I did try getting at Eric to uncover the reasoning behind their break-up, and he was not available for comment.
Now I’m just speculating here, (but armed with both my credible sources and my great logic). I’m sure one of the reasons was because Rakim went MIA for countless shows and interviews. I wonder why? Were drugs to blame for his sudden absence? It’s no secret that dude has been smoking cocaine for some time now. What’s worse is he’s now calling himself a GOD! WTF??? I’d say that’s very ungodly! I mean, how hypocritical is that? (more…)
According to Prince Markie Dee of The Fat Boys, he recently saw an encounter between Beetle Juice and The Iron Sheik. Prince Markie Dee witnessed The Iron Sheik call Beetle Juice a “LITTLE NIGGER” and that didn’t sit well with him.
After Prince Markie spoke out about this foul behavior from the former WWF wrestler, The Sheik began spouting off racist and inflammatory comments via his twitter account directed towards The Fat Boys. Some comments the Sheik twittered include, “@TheFatBoys you fat black mother fucker.” and, “you need to be fucked in the ass”
WTF is the sheik thinking? This has activated the fan base of The Fat Boys who then urged a response, a street fight between Markie Dee and the Sheik. Marvel Comics Editor/Writer Ryan Penagos (@agent_m) took it a step further by offering cash money for a throw-down.
HSK is hearing that Rockband by MTV’s Harmonix, will be sponsoring the fight should The Iron Sheik accept the challenge and UFC legend Frank Trigg has reached out to Markie Dee with an offer. According to Markie Dee’s manager Louis L. Gregory from The Uncle Louie Music Group, “Frank Trigg has offered to exclusively train Prince Markie Dee for the fight.” Even Hugh Hefner has chimed in with support and has invited the The Fatboys to the mansion and may even host the event. It was my pleasure to speak with legendary Hip Hop icon: The 45 King. We conversed about many other ground-breaking Hip-Hop artists which The 45 King made HITS for including Queen Latifah and Kurtis Blow.
If you’re interested (I was) to learn how one of Hip Hop’s premiere artists came up with the name “The 45 King”, I encourage all my readers to check this interview. Not only will you learn about the background of his stage name, but he’ll also share with you his experiences while working with “New Kids On The Block” as well as Pop’s diva – Madonna.
I’d be thinking that Rakim was really great in his prime. However, its unfair to compare Jay-Z to Rakim. Rakim had generated alot of thought provoking and innovative material in his day. If he didnt do what he did (along with Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One and Kool G Rap)then there would be no Jay-Z or Nas.
Also, I’d be thinking that Dre dropped Rakim because Rakim didnt want to rap that same nonsense that 50, Eminem and the GAME rap about. Dre wouldnt have been satisfied with his sales numbers, either.
Who the f are you? Rakim is still cool in my book.
In the second part of our exclusive interview with hip hop legend, Mickey Benson, he tells up how the grandfather of hip hop ventured to the motherland to discover their new moniker “Africa Bambaataa and The Universal Zulu Nation.” Benson also reveals how the West Coast’s first recognized rapper, Ice T, made his east coast connection.
If you want to learn all about hip hip, Benson’s definitely your go-to guy. Know why? Because he was there from the get-go. Why do you think he was the spokesman for “The Zulu Nation”? I must say that I enjoyed what I learned while speaking with Benson, so pay attention because you’ll learn something too.
Here’s how West Coast’s hip hop connected to East Coast’s hip hop. Take a listen…
Former child star Mackenzie Phillips’ allegations of fallen victim to a decade-long incestuous affair at the hands of her rock legend father (John Phillips), and blaming her deadbeat dad for shooting her up with her very first dose of cocaine, are being shot down by her step mother, Michelle Phillips.
This comes after the former “One Day at a Time” cast member spoke out about her dark childhood past during an interview with Oprah, Wednesday. “John was a bad parent and a drug addict, But f*cking his daughter?” says Mackenzie’s step-mother, “If she thinks it’s true, why isn’t she with a good psychiatrist on a couch? I think it’s unconscionable that Oprah would let her do her show. I have every reason to believe it’s untrue. Oprah should be more judicious about who she has on her show.”
I must say those are some serious shots at not only Mackenzie, but Oprah…the Queen of television. (more…)
I did a hour interview with Mickey Benson who is the spokesman for the Grandfather of hip/hop Afrika Bambaataa’s Zulu’s Nation… This interview will broken down into segments to make it easier for you all to digest.
I was a young kid at the time when this thing called Hip/Hop was invented… I am not from New York so Mickey is breaking it down for me and all I can do is pay attention, so should you… To remind you I played in a band as a teen-ager but when I heard Ice-T’s ” Rhyme Pays” and Eric-B and Rakim ” Follow The Leader” I was done with my band. I became a MC. I remember Kurtis Blow, Grand Master Flash And The Furious Five, Run Dmc, The Sugar Hill Gang and the Soul Sonic Force but Mickey Benson was there. Guess what? I wasn’t…
Eric B told me DJ’s from Queens had Cervin Vega speakers and Kool Herc had guitar speakers… In other words Eric told me that Kool Herc was not the first one with the loud amplified sound…Once again I wasn’t there all I can do is take notes but this is a classic series and I hope you all to enjoy it…
Today’s episode is called ” The Origins Of Hip/Hop”.
Hip-hop pioneer takes local artists to task Posted by Federico Martinez | Muskegon Chronicle August 27, 2009 06:03AM
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS — The question: “Who is the face of hip-hop today? Whoever says ‘Jay-Z’ is an idiot,” Prof Griff of the legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy bluntly responded during a recent forum in Muskegon Heights.
Griff was addressing more than 150 people who attended the event, which was held Saturday at the Muskegon Heights Boxing Club. The program, sponsored by local radio station 103.7 The Beat, is one of a series of culturally related workshops that the station is hosting this year.
“The face of hip-hop today is white — white, corporate America,” added Griff. Griff’s lecture was titled “Black Music: The Psycho Analytical Destruction of a Stolen Legacy,” and anyone thinking they could cruise through this class was quickly put on notice by “The Professor.” ”You’re not going to agree with everything I’m going to say, I’m just going to tell you that from the beginning,” said Griff. “Those people who are going to get angry and red-faced with me, that’s fine too, because I have to move you out of your comfort zone.
“If you listen to the local radio station and you’re digging what’s going on the station and you’re going down to the club and partying into that same madness, you’re going to have a problem with The Professor today,” he continued. “If you think — someone on the panel said Jay Z is the face of hip-hop — if you think he is, you’re definitely going to have a problem with Griff today.”
With that, Griff served up a music history lesson that highlighted the contributions of socially conscious singers and musicians such as Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Curtis Mayfield. He also pointed out that the roots of hip-hop stem not just from music, but also poetry.

Some of the early rap and hip-hop pioneers include Gil Scott-Heron and Afrika Bambaataa, he said.
Griff argued that the white music industry has profited from black music — including jazz, blues, R&B, rap and hip-hop — for years. The same music industry frequently rewards black performers who live up to negative stereotypes, such as the rap “gangsta,” he said.
Kirstie Alley is killing herself by eating food -it’s totally sad how this woman was a Hollywood bombshell now she can play the part in the next Star Wars movie as Jabba the hutt. Kristie is 5-foot-8 , weighs 250 pounds, and she’s 58yrs old. I’m wondering how long Kirstie can live for? Doctors are giving her four years to live and they’re also saying that Kirstie is suffering from depression.
She’s also suffering from disturbing eating disorder. Back in 2000 Kirstie lost 75 pounds and she was the poster girl for Jenny Craig – remember that? That’s a time she’ll remember ‘cuz when Kirstie’s boyfriend James Wilder dumped her she was back in the frigerator again. This bad eating habit that Kirstie is suffering from can weaken her heart and lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and arthritis…doesn’t anybody care?
