Massachusetts Supreme Court is considering a controversial program that would charge inmates for their stay in prison. The’Debt to Society’ program was sparked by Bristol County Sheriff, Thomas Hodgson. “It’s time the inmates start to pay their way,” said Hodgson. “They’re the people who cost the most, and contribute the least.”
Part of the proposed plan would be to charge inmates $5.00 for their ‘cost of care’, $3.00 for their ‘co-pay to medical unit’, $5.00 for a haircut, and $12.50 for GED testing. Some say charging inmates for their GED is one thing, but charging them for food is another — leaving many to ask how would inmates looking to turn over a new leaf redeem themselves, if they have to pay for school? “If they have money to buy candy, cookies and upgraded sneakers, they have money to pay their basics first,” said Hodgson. “Simple because they commit crimes against the law abiding citizens, inmates are not recession-free.” (more…)
Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill — and sent Ammiano and the legislators a remarkable veto letter. The letter says nothing about the substance of the bill; in fact, the language is really convoluted and it’s hard to figure out what the gov is really saying.
Just days ago civil rights leader, Reverend Al Sharpton praised Joe Jackson for demonstrating exceptional parenting skills, by honoring the King of Pop’s father with an award.
“I wish we had more stern fathers,” said Sharpton. “Then, we wouldn’t be shooting each other up.” But just days after Michael Jackson’s death, the world learned that he himself was shooting himself up…with drugs. MJ has openly admitted to blame his father for much of his life’s pain, and dark past.
“I was physically and emotionally abused during incessant rehearsals, whippings, and name-calling,” said Michael Jackson. “One night, while I was asleep, Joseph climbed into my room through the bedroom window, wearing a fright mask and screaming.” It’s reported that for several years following the deranged incident, the King of Pop suffered countless nightmares of being kidnapped from his bedroom.
Michael’s brother, Marlon has even spoken out against the man the Jackson kids refer to as “Joseph”, NOT dad. “Joseph held Michael upside down by one leg,” said Marlon. “Pummeled him over and over again with his hand, hitting him on his back and buttocks.”
Nonetheless, Rev. Al Sharpton stands by Joe Jackson, crediting Jackson’s parenting methods as being solid ones. “The arrogance of (people) attacking a man for being a stern father,” said Sharpton. (more…)

RUSSELL SIMMONS and JACKY JASPER KICK-IT, AFTER CALLING TRUCE
In one of his best interviews to date, Jacky Jasper speaks during a candid conversation with rap music mogul, Russell ‘Uncle Russ’ Simmons.
The man behind ‘Phat Farm’ opens up with Jacky, regarding the Def Jam founder’s dark childhood, and how he made a 360 from his past to his present succe$$ful and lengthy career. During the discussion, Simmons lyrically bows-down and credits The Nation of Islam for standing by him, as a youth living in the hood. Like most black men, he’s encountered racism and segregation first-hand. I advise all my readers to listen and learn from the words of the this wise man we – all know as Russell Simmons.
Take a listen to today’s episode, “The Million Man March Anniversary”…
October 16th 2009 will mark the 14th annual “Million Man March”, and with the grandiose event just a day away, I had the great opportunity to speak with Captain Dennis Muhammad, of The Nation of Islam – a man who was there from the very get go of not only the first “Million Man March”, but also during the beginning stages of its preparations.
The idea of the “Million Man March” was born back in 1994, after The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan delivered a speech at the 369th Armory in Harlem, New York. “About 12,000 packed the armory, and we had to turn about 12,000 to 15,000 men away because we couldn’t hold them,” said Dennis Muhammad. “It was that day that he (Minister Farrakhan) said to those men that he would like to take a million men to Washington, D.C.”
The mission behind the “Million Man March” movement is aimed at publicly turning the negative stereotypes of African American men into a positive outlook on the race, as a whole. “The Minister felt that the negative portrayal of black youth was being set-up for black destruction, by the United States Government,” said Dennis Muhammad. “And so, he felt he wanted to show the world that black men can come together in a positive way.” And that’s exactly what Minister Louis Farrakhan and his followers achieved. “If somebody would have told me 14-years-ago, that I would live to see the day that black men, in the numbers that attended the march, would be assembled together, and there would be no shooting, no looting, no tooting, no getting high, not one argument, I would say – man not in my lifetime,” said Dennis Muhammad. “But on October 16th 1995, I witnessed the greatest event of my lifetime – the assembly of that number of men marching in Washington, D.C.” (more…)
The death toll continues to rise after the deadliest tropical storm to hit the Philippines that its Pacific Islanders have seen in more than four-decades.
“Right now the challenge is to find out how many people have actually died and how many people we have to take care of,” said a spokesman for the Philippines National Red Cross.
At last report, almost 150 bodies have been found…all dead at the hands of Mother Nature’s ferocious “Storm Ketsana.”
“We’re really talking about maybe hundreds of thousands of people,” with about 280,000 to 300,000 displaced in the island of Luzon alone, said a Philippines Red Cross spokesperson.
Ketana’s fury left more than 80-percent of Manila under flood waters, forcing the evacuation of almost 50-thousand residents.
Weather experts recorded the waters dumped onto the island’s capital surpassed the amount of flooding that slammed onto the city of New Orleans, back in August of 2005.
And though countless Hurricane Katrina victims were forced to survive for up to 18-days after facing Katrina’s fury, they were also forced to fight her aftermath (including scorching heat, hazardous waters, man-eating wildlife, and starvation). These inhumane conditions left New Orleans’ displaced residents with no choice but to fight to stay alive. (more…)
It is with little surprise that 75% and beyond of Oklahoma and Arizona children could not name the first American president. This is to the disgrace of the FEW with intelligence and desire to learn. Finally a president has addressed this matter and perhaps will even take action to bring the American education system out of the 18th century and into the 21st. We as a society and country should demand the highest standard of our education system. Instead society would rather finance prison systems. The proposal below by Obama should be pushed through with out debate!
Unfortunately the headline from the AP suggests that this is something students should “BEWARE OF”. Rather HSK thinks students should beware of not being educated to HIGHEST possible standard.
Obama says American kids spend too little time in school, putting them at a disadvantage with other students around the globe. “Now, I know longer school days and school years are not wildly popular ideas,” the president said earlier this year. “Not with Malia and Sasha, not in my family, and probably not in yours. But the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom.”
The president, who has a sixth-grader and a third-grader, wants schools to add time to classes, to stay open late and to let kids in on weekends so they have a safe place to go. “Our school calendar is based upon the agrarian economy and not too many of our kids are working the fields today,” Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

Do you know the name of our Country’s first President? If your answer is no, you’re not alone. Some shocking statistics from a recent study say 3 out of 4 American teens (in Oklahoma) don’t know who was our first Commander in Chief. WTF? (Let me give you a hint…his image is smack dab in the middle of the front of a dollar bill. (Something I’m sure most teens hold just about every day.) But, with teens watching an estimated 7 hours and 12 minutes of television every day, I bet you they all know all the latest details on Britney Spears and Lil Wayne. Won’t you agree?
Check this: The United States Government receives more than 7.5 million applications from immigrants yearning to land a pass to live right here, on “The Land of Opportunity” – an estimated 92% of those would-be Americans not only knew the names of our country’s fore father’s, but also how many justices are on the Supreme Court – (those are just a few historical facts they need to know be granted the green light for taking their Oath of Allegiance).
