Words like “Ball’in”and “Floss’in” came about when America had money. That was the 90′s…when it was hip to push a gas-guzzling truck. It was a time when seeing four sista’s dressed like they just came out of a rap video, in a Cadillac Escalade bumping TuPac, was the norm…and the brothers had Lincoln Navigators sitting on rims. I often wondered why someone would spend $10K or more on rims. And do you remember the assholes who thought they were on top of the world when they were driving around in their Hummer trucks?
Shit, I remember record companies were giving away back in the 90′s. Don’t believe me? Ask Hype Williams. Everybody wanted to be a rapper…kids were even dropping out of school to follow the dream of two turntables and a microphone.
Some video models were getting paid $3K to $5K just to appear in regular hip hop videos, and entertainment lawyers were laughing all the way to the bank. Ask David Kenner.
MTV had a show called “Cribs” where entertainers would show off their homes. BET had their own version of that called “How I’m Living”…that’s where I first saw R. Kelly’s house. It was the same house dude film his underage porno video of him urinating on Stephanie “Sparkle” Edwards’ underage niece. Do you remember that? I do, and I still haven’t forgiven R.
