Dallas police are now giving women working in the world’s oldest profession a choice after being busted. A new program aimed at helping prostitutes to turn over a new leaf is granting Dallas sex trade workers the choice to go to drug rehabilitation instead of prison.

It’s all a part of the city of Dallas’ attempt to clean up the streets while lending a helping hand to women they view as victims of sex crimes. “We are the pioneers, I suppose,” said Renee Breazeale, program director for Homeward Bound. “It’s the only police-led program and represents a change of culture for law enforcement.”

Program leaders say of the less than 200 women who have chosen rehab over time behind bars, just 21 of those former prostitutes have turned their lives around. But, advocates of the program are hopeful they will be making more progress as they proceed. Dallas vice police have identified more than 1,300 working prostitutes working at area truck stops.

Now, law enforcement organizations across the country and in Canada are looking into the rehabilitation program.

Because I believe in equal rights for both men and women, I wonder if they will be doing the same for pimps. Know why? Because some of them need rehab too. Don’t you agree?
