R.I.P. MC Breed

by Jacky Jasper

Eric Breed he died Nov 22nd of kidney failure. I am truly sad.

The big homie, my friend, we were cool. I called him B, I met B when I first came back to California, I think it was 94 or 95. All I know the city was on fire. He was riding in a town car, he had a driver (hat’s how everyone should always roll.)

I was chilling at Denny’s that was the spot on Sunset and Martel, all the pimps and ho’s were  there. Pimp’s from Oakland, San Franisco, Vegas pimp’s, and ho’s from everywhere, from every city in America.

We ate and kicked it there, some played chess while they ate a Denny’s Grand Slam, some even watched their ho’s on the track because it was right there on Sunset Blvd.

It was America’s biggest track. Hugh Grant got busted on that track remember that?

Most Rappers at that time who recorded in Hollywood or kicked it in Hollywood could be found at this Denny’s. It was open 24 hrs plus it was hip. It was the after studio spot. I could name names but there’s too much to mention. The authorities shut-down that Denny’s. Some pimp killed another pimp in that Denny’s.

It was THE PIMP’S AND HO’S DENNY’S, a block up the street on the same side of Sunset Blvd was Rock’N’ Roll Ralphs. That’s a supermarket chain in California. It was in that Denny’s that’s where the hookers would use the bathroom to re-fresh themselves after they pulled a trick.

The track was out of control but Its was there at this Denny’s I met MC BREED and many other rappers. I told Breed that when I had met Christopher Wallace A.K.A. BIGGIE that he and I had discussed you music. Biggie was a fan. Biggie told me he likes Too Short and MC Breed’s music. Breed appreciated that, we also spoke about the MAJORS.

We called the major record companies Major.s we didn’t like the Majors, we were INDEPENDENT. We didn’t wanna get signed and lockdown with tight contract. We were cowboys.

We were easily selling 50 thousand CD’S at 5 to 7 dollars a pop. Independent labels were getting rich.  I was flying to New York back to Los Angeles all the time, remember Tower Airlines?

It was cheap plus, Breed was hop skipping and jumping all around the United States as well. We never got a chance to record together, we were busy and back then it was not commom to have internet (at least not internet capable of what it is today.) We weren’t emailing beats and vocals, it was Ampex 2 inch tape or the Alesis ADATS.

The world that we live in which is filled with music will truly miss MC BREED!

I remember Eric Breed A.K.A. MC BREED as a COOL DUDE I look outside my window today and outside looks cold, so I am staying in today. I am bumpin MC BREED songs all day.

I WISH MY HOMIE HEAVEN and everybody today should listen to his hit single” Ain’t No Future In Your Frontin”

To all rappers in the game or coming up in the game remembering MC BREED will only help you on your climb up the Ladder of $ucce$$
