Free Angela Wins Best Documentary

~You know her name. Know her story.~

The story of political icon Angela Davis proved to shine above 22 other nominated doc’s introduced at this year’s Pan African Film Festival. The Shola Lynch film “Free Angela & All Political Prisoners” took the title of PAFF’s Best Documentary – after closing the the annual film festival to a standing ovation, Sunday.

The documentary’s April 5th release will mark the 40th anniversary of the acquittal of Angela Davis and chronicles her journey and role in the well documented case — featuring interviews with her lawyers as well as FBI agents who were on the case and journalists who covered it.

Here’s what Jay Z had to say about “Free Angela”:

“Shola Lynch has crafted an intricate and compelling film about Angela Davis.
Roc Nation is honored to be a part of a creative collective that can present such a riveting story.”

Here’s what Jada Pinkett Smith told the press:

Filmmaker, Shola Lynch has done an incredible job in revealing a piece of American history we thought we all knew.”
