Quincy Jones To Cash In Again On “We Are the World”

The 80′s smash single “We Are the World” has meet its 25th birthday. Now, Quincy Jones has made a list of today’s artists to collaborate in remaking the track. My question is – If it’s not broken, why fix it?

Back in 1985, the hit recording was made to aid Africa. Today, Quincy says the remake will be in honor of Haiti. How fitting Quincy!

You may remember the “We Are the World” original featured a solid list of gifted artists including Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Bruce Springsteen.

That’s a far cry from today’s list of potential performers for remake of the track, which include: Kayne West, Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Sheryl Crow, Will Smith and Mya. Correct me if I’m wrong, but how does one think this new list of “artists” can even compare to the greats who worked together on the original???

The recording session for the remake is set to happen the day after the Grammy Awards.

The plan for the “We Are the World” remake comes shortly after accusations surfaced of Wyclef falsely using the Haiti crisis to benefit himself. You may also remember Live Aid founder, Bob Geldof aka Sir Bob Geldof, was once part of the band “Boomtown Rats.” Geldof is now filthy rich from raising funds for charity. So, these guys are no different than the Red Cross — they pay themselves largely off the top of the charity funds they raise. Do you think Quincy cares about the charity song? If he did, he would have gathered together better talent, which leads me to believe that he only cares for the check and is using sympathy to make it a big one. Don’t you agree?
