Update: Succumbing to pressure from GLAAD and other gay rights groups CNN has suspended Roland Martin for 3 days, after which a permanent suspension will be considered.

Roland Martin was Tweeting during the Super Bowl game and when the CNN commentator saw the David Backham underwear commercial he tweeted “Real Bruhs would not purchase underwear advertised by Beckham. People should smack the shit out of male fans that like this ad.” Guess what–The Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is demanding the resignation of the CNN analyst Roland Martin.
“Fam let me address the issue that some in the LGBT community have raised regarding some of my Super Bowl tweets yesterday. I made several cracks about soccer as I do all the time. I was not referring to sexuality directly or indirectly regarding the David Beckham ad, and I’m sorry folks took it otherwise. It was meant to be a deliberately over the top and sarcastic crack about soccer, I do not advocate violence of any kind against anyone gay, or not.
As anyone who follows me on Twitter knows, anytime soccer comes up during football season it’s another chance for me to take a playful shot at soccer, nothing more.”

He wasn’t gay bashing he was making a legitimate obeservation. The demographics of a Super Bowl don’t warrant an underware commerial depicting a hot sexy MAN in his underware. This type of advertising makes a majority of their targeted audience uncomfortable. I’m sure more men felt as Martin did they just didn’t tweet it.
