Spike Lee is doin’ the wrong thang. Know why? Because he’s proven to be a sell out mane! The film director has teamed up with Absolut Vodka to exploit his fellow Brooklynites.
The Academy Award nominee is set to design a city-inspired bottle collection for the Vodka company, using colorful depictions of the cornerstone of Brooklyn communities. A design of one bottle includes an inscription to his beloved community and nicknames of some steps of the stoop which he walked during his childhood.
Spike says that he’s paying homage to Brooklyn but we all know he’s not different than Sean “P Diddy” Combs, and other black celebrities that will take a paycheck from liquor companies to help destroy our communities.
Spike is feeling a little bit guilty…Know why? Because after he helps Absolut Vodka turn people into alcoholics, he says he will give back $50,000 dollars of the vodka’s proceeds to a Habitat for Humanity in New York City. He’s also created a T-shirt with visual strategist Fuse Green, to celebrate Brooklyn Stoop Life.
Spike Lee is such a hypocrite. You may remember his movies “Jungle Fever” and “Do The Right Thing”. Well now he’s definitely doing the wrong thing. I guess if you need a cold beer you can call Billy Dee Williams for a Colt 45, and if you need a bottle of Vodka you can call Puffy or Spike Lee.

Remember like back in ’91/’92, Pac was talking about Spike and Eddie Murphy and all these Black celebs being sellouts and I was like “Pac you trippin’”, because I thought Spike was one of those “blackity, black” motherfuckers and it was only a few years after “Do The Right Thing”, and so I really respected the dude.

Alcoholics are alcoholics, and if Spike Lee helping Absolut then AT BEST all that will happen is alcoholics will shift from one brand to the next. Y’all can start trippin when NEW alcoholics come on the scene from this. If Spike Lee’s a sell-out for lending his likenes and Brooklyn imagery (which they don’t need Spike Lee for) to make himself and Habitat for Humanity some good money, then Robin Hood’s a sell-out too.

This is a good article to reissue, considering the findings of the independent drugs investigation conducted by Professor David Nutt (Jacky has a link in the daily news picks).
We’ve all seen the damage that alcohol abuse does to societies, and it appears that other substances are much safer. If Spike Lee supports the legalisation of heroin, allowing users to buy over the counter, contaminant free smack, effectively killing the underworld trade of heroin (which ultimately funds the Taliban), I will buy his product.
If people had a wide array of highs to choose from, you can bet that people wouldn’t try to find happiness just in a bottle, which is what’s doing such damage. A pinch of freebase here, a little toot of horse, some acid and Narcissism on the stereo. People are going to be happy, not getting in fights, and not clogging up ER rooms with alcohol related problems.

actually, from past experience, pure opium is much easier on the human body as opposed to methadone. After what I went through kicking that sh*t (10+yrs ago) I am SOOOO anti synthetics it isn’t even funny. The damage that sh*t did to my body, and the YEARS it took me to “get right” again wasn’t funny. Dope, I could of kicked that and had my body back within weeks, not years like it took with methadone. And here’s a sobering stat. for the last ten years (info from circa inquisition into anna n.smith’s son’s death) METHADONE had been THE #1 PAIN releiver perscribed by US md’s. Frighteneing. I was a somewhat fit twenty something trying to kick meathadone, can you imagine an elderly person, or someone with an already weakend immune system!!!!!!!!!!

In the wider context of societal issues, Jacky brings important issues like the damage of alcohol, STDs, racism, to mention but a few, to the fore with this website. Jacky also pays homage to stellar musicians that have shaped the development of music, and discusses positive and negative trends in today’s music industry.
In the celebrity sphere, I personally am glad to learn that Will I Am has ripped off another track, or Kanye has declared himself king of the world again, or whatever – the topics are very diverse. Psychologists have studied the issue of people commenting on other people’s behaviour (gossiping is a word that I don’t particularly like, as it conjures up the image of the hair salon, but when people gossip for the sake of gossip, i guess that’s what it is). They found that it serves a valuable purpose in society, as people judge whether the actions of the individual are acceptable in society. If they’re not, then it reinforces a certain standard of behaviour, and demonstrates what actions fall below that standard.
I’m not a religious person as such, but you can see in most religious texts, that people’s behaviour has been scrutinised, and this has helped to educate people as to how they should behave for millennia.

Spike lee promoting vodka is nothing but business as if a prominent black director can’t sign a deal that will result in some revenue going to a charity. The way of the world is to get paid!
