The mastermind behind Washington, D.C.’s sniper attacks, is set to be executed this evening.

John Allen Muhammad, 48, was denied his clemency request by the Supreme Court, Monday. “I find no compelling reason to set aside the sentence that was recommended by the jury and then imposed and affirmed by the courts,” stated Virginia’s Governor Tim Kaine.

Muhammad is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 9 p.m. ET, at Virginia’s Greensville Correctional Center.

Muhammad and his then teen accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, are responsible for murdering fourteen people and wounding three others, back in October 2002. That’s when the pair went on a shooting rampage, from the trunk of an old Chevy Caprice. The senseless slayings took place over a span of three weeks. The Gulf war veteran’s weapon of choice was a Bushmaster XM-15 rifle with .223 ammunition. (more…)
