Lakers Forward Ron Artest Urges Sister to Collect Welfare
Monday, November 30th, 2009
Ron Artest and his older sister, Latoya Holmes-Ivey remain at the center of a welfare fraud case.
The investigation comes after authorities say the pro-basketball player directed his sister to apply for federal assistance. Holmes-Ivy is reported to have collected up to $34,000 in “taxpayer-supported rent assistance”, after not claiming any income. But, investigators on the case say Artest pays his sister’s monthly bills.
Neighbors of the basketball star’s 36-year-old sister say they’re shocked by the recent news.
“I never understood why she was on assistance because of that, when she told me he was her brother…If you have a brother like that anyway, why do you have to commit fraud or whatever?” (more…)
