I expect racist remakes from people like Bill O’Reilly, but I can’t believe this generation’s Caucasian kids are putting down black people. Just weeks after John Mayer shocked the world by comparing his dick to a “white supremacist”, actor Robert Pattenson has picked up where the singer left off. And with actors and singers dropping N-bombs left and right, we now have college kids having blackface parties. We as a society seem to be going backwards, when it comes to this thing called racism.
During a recent run in with a black reporter, Robert Pattinson seemed to have been waiting at his chance to let his racist views be heard. Here’s how it went down…
Interviewer: Rob, did you know that every time you say actor or acting you lower your voice to a whisper?
Rob: ((He’s genuinely startled.)) “I do?”
Interviewer: Yes, so quietly it’s like you’re saying Negro.
Rob: ((He laughs, lightens up.)) “What if we were ‘acting’ like ‘Negroes’? Then we’d be f*cked—we couldn’t hear anything. . . .
WTF!?!?
It’s seems that this Robert Pattinson guy is yearning to re-live the Bob Hope era. I’m sure Pattinson’s PR person is busy writing an apology for the ignorant bastard right now. And, when he delivers it, I probably won’t buy it from the actor…just like I didn’t buy John Mayer’s tear-filled ‘I’m Sorry’ speech. It just may be that a racist rehabilitation clinic is greatly needed to help cure these people of their racist views. Don’t you agree?

Not that I give a shit about Robert Patterson, the following points could easily be made.
1) He didn’t bring up the word ‘negro’, he reacted to it.
2) He didn’t say that ‘acting’ like a negro would be bad, he was trying to riff off the guy by saying that if you combined the quietness that he was saying ‘actor’ with the quietness of somebody saying ‘negro’, that it would be combined that much quieter than saying either one or none at all. It’s a fucking terrible joke, but racist? .. hardly.
I think it’s totally legit to call people out for being racist if they are, worst people on this planet — but this dude isn’t necessarily racist. Retarded? For sure.

First of all, let me clear something. Why all of a sudden, just because he made a semi ignorant remark, hes racist. I don’t think he goes around calling black people n****S and n****es. A RACIST person would be as ignorant as that.SO cut him some slack. He made an unexusable remark, which not to mention, was light humor, so please don’t jump to such vindictive conclusions. I wish i could say I understood that whole conversation. People seem to read a lot into what is said by certain groups of people and disregard what other groups of people say. Black artist seem to make a lot of racist remarks that go without comment and other races have to apologize until they turn blue. That doesn’t seem fair to me. Maybe everyone should keep their opinions of other races to themselves. It would make the world a quieter place.

Nothing in Rob’s comment was remotely racist. But what I do see is a media (black & White reporters) trying to knock the hot new start off the perch. What’s going to happen is that he’ll eventually stop doing interviews with small minded reporters like this one. Rob being from Europe probably doesn’t understand America’s hyper-sensitivity to anything racial. He’s a good actor – cute as a button and I will to continue to watch his movies. He’s only 24 soon maturity and living in America will help him recongnize slimy reporters from a mile away. In the meantime I hope he get’s a better PR firm.

I am so co confused by that quote. To me it sounded like he was saying black ppl are loud?! I think it’s a generalization that could be construed as racism but I don’t know what he really meant. The interviewer seemed to be putting words into the poor guy’s mouth. I doubt that was the first interviewer he had to deal with that day. Also, nobody would make a big deal over a black actor talking about how effed up it would be if he had to “act white”.
I think Europeans are less sensitive over racial slurs and jokes, which I think is a good step toward getting over racial differences and just treating each other like human beings.
