Whats Really Happened to Hip Hop!

Hip Hop you don’t stop. What a great form of music. I no longer have the same love for Hip Hop as its made a drastic change for the worse.
Remember when rappers didn’t like each other? When it was competitive. It was like the NBA or a Boxing Match there was rivalry.
It was so exciting and the people loved it most rappers built their career on dismantling the opposition. Here’s a few battles you might remember.
- Jay Z getting at Mob Deep you guys loved it and I notice you guys didn’t call Jay Z a hater you congratulated him on it.
- Jay attacked Nas you guys didn’t call him a hater once again you loved it and Nas answered back with Ether and you all enjoyed it. Then 50 cent attacked Ja Rule. I remember people laughing their asses off. You didn’t call 50 a hater you agreed with 50 didn’t you?
Then Lil Wayne called himself the greatest rapper alive. I found it entertaining so did you that’s why he became number one. Now 50 Cent is getting at Rick Ross and I ain’t mad at all. Rick started it but it’s Hip Hop it’s not hating. It’s marketing so stop misusing the word hater. It seems like everybody forgot what made them popular. Meaning rappers became fame mongers most started listening to their publicist and people who had nothing to do with the street (record companies).
Keeping it real is slang some of us use in this game we call Hip Hop. Rappers meant it when they said fuck the radio. My my how things have changed. Hip Hop lost being hip and became Pop. You don’t believe me? Then why are some of these rap cats recording with bullshit acts like MIA. Who is she? She can’t even sing these rap dudes are just fucking their credibility off.
Now they all on Obama’s dick. Please leave that to Chuck D and Public Enemy. Stay in your lane. You niggas was killing MF’s on records and you were cooking crack on records. Keep doing that it’s what you do. Leave the political shit for Chuck D. You guys are acting confused. I am happy, just like you all are for our new president but it’s not going to stop the police beatings or hard times in government housing is it?
So we still got the blues and the struggle continues but rappers are coming off rather happy don’t you think so? Hip Hop is poetry from the poor man and most poor people dream a lot and it’s a beautiful thing to hear someones imagination it shows they have hope. A rich black man’s poetry does not count he lives with the oppressor. He can be a part of the problem. Hip Hop is suppose to be revolutionary. The dance stuff is cool it’s a part of Hip Hop. I am not mad at that. It’s the hypocritical rappers that piss me off. They get rich and switch.
Put it this way Steven Spielberg still takes commercial flights. I know, I’ve seen him myself many times in LAX. Why are these rappers acting so bourgeois that they need a private jet to travel? They are not flossin on rich white people when they show their wealth. They are flossin on poor blacks because it’s them the black kids look up too.
Hip Hop became GQ Magazine, MTV Cribs, Award Shows (grammys, american music awards mtv awards clothing lines etc..) Hip Hop lost being hip and became mainstream popular music which is garbage.
Seeing whats happening to Hip Hop I now know what happened to Jazz, Blues and Rock music. It all went mainstream, people actually forgot where it came from. It’s a lesson we all should learn on our climb up the Ladder of $ucce$$

i agree with you. everything is lost in the popular culture. we need a new rebellion to keep reality real, not some bullshit you see on VH-1.

Your right… evolution is inevitable, unfortunently this adaptation is to the detriment of the art form. Mainstream(Puffy) and politcal correctness have killed Hip Hop. Therfore, true lovers of Hip Hop are just in feeling betrayed by the artist.

my nigggah what are you talking about? When 50 disses rick ross HipHop was already dead. The last real HipHop cd was Get rich or die trying. Nas dissed jay-z then months later went on tv and freaking apologized basically and signed his life away to him. You were right with jay z and nas and bac in the day ll and moe d and cannibus and ll that’s hiphop. but hiphop was long dead before 50 dissed ross

I know but guess what? A lot of folks can’t go that far back in the game so most can remember the Fake Rick Ross & 50 Cent battle because it’s happening right now…
[Reply]
Yeah I’m going to have to agree with that statement. Remember when you read a Hip hop magazine it seem like you was really seeing some cutting edge shit, now its a bunch of rumors and marketing plans. Real people look at rappers as clowns. These rappers let themselves become Characatures of their character. Its sad because I remember the days when the DJ’s picked the singles and the people chose what was hot. These artist need to concentrate more on what made them get the people attention…MUSIC.. I dont care about how much money you make. I dont care about ya bitch. And I dont care about these fake beefs( If its real beef, you dont say a dudes name all over your record, you say what you feel and that nigga will know that you are talking to him…(Biggie and Nas). everybody wanna blame the decrease in music sales on everything else except the ARTIST! Wow. Really? That nigga wack ass album only sold 50k because the recession, bad marketing, ect…damn i thought it was because he used an over used producer with an over used formula and some over used rhymes..damn my fault. In closing until these artist show more integrity for their craft; i’ll show integrity and buy it with my money..until then i got buckets everywhere for these albums that leakin! Aint bought an album since the Clipse last joint..

Music is FREE it’s like PORN u can download it for FREE…Eminem is selling records because he has a fan base…Does that make him better than a black artist? NO!!! But music sales will continue to be low for most artist and so will their concerts… So promoters better have a lot of groups stacked to appear to perform on stage to get the costumers money… u admitted u haven’t bought a album since the Clipse & guess what? U ain’t the only dude not buying…Matter of fact very few BLACK people are buying hip hop they’re over it. Since corporate America ruin the music so they can steal it and turn into what they want it to be (same shit they did to Rock&Roll) They took away the rebellious attitude of the music & turned it POP…
Don’t believe me ask? Drake.

What’s that negroe’s name who just came out with a book explaining how he sold out hip hop to corporate america? I don’t know why he’s receiving so much praise and airtime when he is partly responsible for killing our art. Hip hop is dead and buried, but that’s what happens when white folks get their greedy hands on our culture and spin it for profit.

I guess the kids should look up to you right? You are a pimp and gossip monger who makes his income poking fun at mostly quasi celebs. Like the site mane…but all of the children look up to emcees stuff is kinda tired. You don’t portray yourself as a role model either. You call out cats that are woman beaters and rightfully so…but then you mess with cars like Ike Turner. You call out porn hoes but then brag about porn hors you slept with and brag because you didnt pay and are not a John…So is it okay for you to do whatever you want but others must meet a standard? If that’s how you feel just come out and say it. I’m not hatin I like the site and hope you continue to get money. I’m just sayin…it’s all a sleazy business mane…

What happened? It’s simple… Hip-Hop became Hip-Pop…
None of these record labels or distribution labels are black owned; not even Roc-a-fella is truly black owned. Having clever, articulate lyrics & storytelling used to be mandatory
Now shit is just ignorant and low quality, no lyrics, just cartoonish bs.
Hip-Hop is now Hip-Pop… look at Soulja Boy, Nicki Minaj, Creayshawn…don’t forget Rolling Stones made Eminem the “King of Hip-Hop”
Black People invented Rock n Roll (Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix)…now look who gets credit & makes $$$ from it…
Michael Jackson is the King of Pop… now look how shitty pop music is now & look at what group mostly profits from it…
Hip-Hop is now Hip-Pop…AKA the Modern Day Minstrel Show
Willie Lynch doctrine has been implemented into rap & hip-hop…think about it…
what other genre of music & race puts out music: disrespecting black women while simultaneously praising women of other ethnicities, condoning violence & encouraging violence towards their brethren & condoning abandoning their children? Now think about who signs their checks… the negroes accepting those checks are nothing but “step-and-fetchits,” weak ass sellouts.
Hip-Hop has been kidnapped, sexually abused, turned out on the track and murdered by her evil stepsister named, Hip-Pop.

Hip hop died when it’s sub genres ended. There used to be a variety of rap that appeLed to different audiences and age groups. There were the boogie down production and the chuck d types and there were the kwame and digitL under ground types. The true MCs always bragged about their skills on the mic, Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, LL, Kool Moe Dee. There was east coast And there was west cost NWA, Too Short, The D.O.C, Bone Thugs n Harmoney, DJ Quick and of course Ice Cube.
We even had female rappers, good bad or indifferent…. There were females in the game: Queen Latifa, Salt n Peppa, Boss, Queen Mother Rage, Sweet Tee, MC Lyte, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown.
Once hip hop went from a melting pot to a bottle of Crystal, it was all over! When every corporation chaned their catch phrase to a rap phrase, it hip hop couldn’t be resurrected! It’s been rotting ever since.
[Reply]
Very on-point discussion once again, Jacky. Anytime something becomes too commercialized, it gets watered down and loses some of what made it so appealing in the first place.
But on top of that, the rules changed because the entry system changed: Once Pro-Tools and beat machines became accessible to the public, suddenly everybody could make tracks and force access. That happened around the same time file sharing became a phenomena. And suddenly, the labels weren’t the gatekeepers anymore and guess who stepped in? Pay for play DJs, connected and shady promoters, and for-sale “Hip Hop media” and those damn dick-riding bloggers, among others.
Its really disgusting. True talent has little chance of being heard unless they can spread the butter around the table. And that’s a big-ass table.

Bullshit. Easy E and Master P killed that theory that keeping it real can’t pay the bills. It’s all about your business saviness and how much your splitting the pie. Yes endorsements and other corporate perks might put extra dollars in your pockets, but keeping it real can be profitable. We have been brainwashed to believe that we absolutely NEED white corporate america to save us.
